Anxiety increases support for a variety of policies agreed upon by health organizations. What happens when citizens confront anxiety about policies where there are no clear “best practices” but rather competing policies offered by partisan actors? We use the policy areas of climate change, terrorism, and immigration to explore how the political environment and issue ownership condition anxiety’s effect on attitudes.
